The Role of OSPOs in the Open Source Ecosystem

The importance of open source software and digital sovereignty has never been more paramount and OSPOs are the current paradigm of the Open Source governance. They play a crucial role in promoting open source adoption, driving innovation, and ensuring compliance and security within the public and private sectors. This presentation introduces the OSPO Alliance, a pioneering initiative committed to fostering the adoption and effective management of open source projects within organisations. Central to this effort is the Good Governance Handbook, a comprehensive resource designed to guide organisations in establishing and operating OSPOs effectively. Drawing on industry examples, the session will demonstrate how organisations are leveraging OSPOs to enhance their digital sovereignty and contribute to the broader open source ecosystem to support the sustainable growth of open source communities.
