LibreOffice was capable of handling multi-page tables and floating tables in
Writer already. But it was not possible to combine these two features to have
a multi-page floating table, which is a frequently used feature in Word
documents. We did not lose data, but it looked like data is lost. With a
rework of floating object handling in Writer, the layout code now has optional
support for split text frames containing tables, and we import DOCX/DOC/RTF
floating tables as this construct by default. Come and see how this work is
implemented, where are the still rough edges and how you can help.
Miklos got involved with OpenOffice.org development in 2010 when he completed
two Google Summer of Code projects to improve the RTF import/export filter of
Writer. Later he became a full-time LibreOffice Writer developer for SUSE, now
a contractor at Collabora.
