Software freedom and more – (re)discovering the origins of TDF

Using the git visualization tool fornalder, the Wayback Machine, and various sources including personal memories, this is a quasi-scientific attempt to collect the most important things that have preserved our community and that can help preserve it for the future.


A very personal, but also factual introduction to the origins of our community, also history of LibreOffice and its development, based on 25 years experience in free software activism and development, including the recent 1 year in the board of directors, TDF.

Hungarian free software activist and programmer. Contributor of LibreOffice code base since 2002, certified LibreOffice developer since 2014. Lead developer, mentor and consultant of free software projects, including LibreOffice migration projects of public administration of Hungary. LibreOffice software engineer at Collabora Productivity, Cambridge, UK between 2014–2017, and full-time LibreOffice developer since 2018. Author of Hunspell spell checker, Lightproof grammar checker, LibreLogo and several other improvements for LibreOffice. Member of the board of directors, TDF since 2022.
